Patient data is a public trust. Here is how KARECTL keeps it safe, whether it is used for research or to help run and improve services, who decides how it is used, and how the public is involved.
Security Comes First
Patient data is only ever accessed inside the governed environment. People work inside a protected space rather than taking data away, and research results are reviewed before they leave. Patient data is never sold, and never released without review.
Protection in Layers
There is no single lock; there are several. Only approved people can get in, and they must confirm their identity in more than one way. They see only the data their project or service was approved for. Workspaces have no direct route to the public internet. Anything leaving the environment is reviewed first.
AI Held to the Same Rules
AI tools only work on data inside the governed environment, only after approval, and their activity is recorded like anyone else's. Patient data is not sent to outside AI companies.
Research and Services Kept Apart
Research and the running of services use separate governed environments, each with its own approval. Approval for one use does not cover another.
Independent Oversight
Every research project and every AI application used in services must be approved before data is used, with oversight from our Data Access Committee (DAC).
The Public at the Table
Our Public Advisory and Accountability Group (PAAG) brings members of the public into our work, reviewing how patient data is used for both research and services and challenging us where needed. Decisions about patient data are made with the public, not just about them.
Activity Is Recorded
When people, or approved AI tools, access data, that activity is recorded. We are building a record that will also show if it has ever been altered.
